Ocean to City Safety PolicyThe Event Management Plan, prepared for each Ocean to City Race, covers the safety aspects of the race both on-the-water and on-shore. The "on-the-water" safety plan details the chain of command and roles of the Race Controller, Race Communications Team, Race Area Supervisors, Safety Boat Crews and all other craft. The course is divided into a number of race areas for safety and control purposes. Safety Points ashore are listed, where rescue teams are located during the race to assist crews in trouble coming ashore. The positions of Safety boats, Tick-off boats and Shore Safety Points are shown on maps as well as being listed in the written document. VHF radio communication channels are listed as well as procedures to be followed for abandoning the race or shortening the course. Major and minor emergency protocols are laid out including involvement of the rescue services. Medical assistance is provided on the water as well as ambulance cover to the safety points ashore. Rules for competitor safety include the wearing of suitable personal flotation devices. The following organisations are involved in preparing and operation of the safety policy:
