If you don’t have a boat but would like to enter the race there are some possibilities; Boat Rental - CurrachsMeitheal Mara has a limited amount of traditional Irish currachs available for rent. Currachs are available for crews of 2, 3 or 4. They may be rented for the race for a fee of €30 per person (in addition to your entry fee €40 p.p.). Your boat and oars will be available at the start line and will be recovered from the finish line; if you are new to currach rowing a training session may be availed of on Friday before the race in Crosshaven. Boat Rental - Dragon BoatsMeitheal Mara has a number of exciting Dragon Boats available to rent for large groups. Dragon Boats are loud, colourful and great fun! Dragon Boats hold a crew of 14 (including a cox & drummer). Dragon Boats may be rented for the race for a fee of €30 per person (in addition to your entry fee €40 p.p.). Your boat and oars will be available at the start line and will be recovered from the finish line. If you are new to Dragon Boat paddling a training session may be availed of on the Friday before the race in Crosshaven.
Stand-by CrewOccasionally a crew will enter Ocean to City and one of their members may have to pull out before the race. We maintain a list of potential crew & cox's who can step in and help out in these circumstances. If you are an experienced rower with no crew and no boat then do get in touch! The river Lee based currach rowing club was founded in 1993 by Meitheal Mara. The club ethos involves encouraging the sport of rowing, good craic and beagáinín gaeilge (a spoonful of irish). The club takes part in the Ocean to City race each year and gets involved in volunteering for the festival. There are currently over 200 members who make use of the 16 Currachs that the club uses.
Naomhóga Chorcai have a public row each Saturday @ 10.30 am where a fee of €10 covers insurance, training, lifejackets and a trip on the river Lee. Click here to contact.
