Maritime Sport ClubsIf you would like to learn how to row a traditional currach why not get in touch with Naomhóga Chorcaí who are based in the City and meet at Shandon Boat Club on Saturday mornings. ICRF There are a few Irish Coastal Rowing Federation (ICRF) clubs based in Cork Harbour, Whitegate Rowing Club on the east side of the harbour and Blackrock Rowing Club who row out of Blackrock village are two. There are also clubs in Crosshaven, Passage, Rushbrook and Cobh. The Irish Coastal Rowing Federation is the governing body for ICRF rowing in Ireland and their web site has contact details for all affiliated clubs. CANOE/KAYAK There is a full list of canoeing and kayaking links here. SLIDING SEAT ROWING While the Ocean to City race does not have a catagory for sliding seat boats, we share the river with a number of clubs active in and around the city. Shandon Boat Club, Cork Boat Club and the Lee Rowing Club are all based on the stretch of the lee between Blackrock Castle and the city. Rowing Ireland is the national governing body for rowing clubs and has full information about all the clubs in the country. SAILING CLUBS There are lots of sailing clubs in the magnificent harbour of Cork. Most famous of all is the Royal Cork Yacht Club based in Crosshaven. There are also sailing clubs are Monkstown and Cobh. The Irish Sailing Association is the national governing body for sailing clubs in Ireland. SAILING SCHOOLS There is a commercially operated sailing school on the island of Cobh and the National Maritime College is also based in Cork harbour. IRISH ROWING CLUBS UK ROWING CLUBS |
